My first post!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

It’s been a bit, but I am finally starting to figure out all this stuff since taking over Northwest Nites.

I am extremely excited about sharing my nights with you each week, and I hope you stay in contact through email, which I am always checking (hooray for Blackberry’s!!)  So feel free to hit me up at jandrews@kupl.com .

Last Friday I got to meet several of you at the Copper Penny, and was completely showed up on the dance floor.  I think everyone now knows why I play the music, and do not dance to it.  It’s similar to a spazzstic fish on land;  just a whole lot of flopping around and gasping for air!

Either way, it was a great time, and I am told that Wednesday night Karoake is great.  Maybe I will try and swing by this week.  Just don’t ask me to sing!

Goodbye

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

WOW. How do you start a blog entry like this?

I guess I’ll start by saying that in case you haven’t heard, I am leaving KUPL (for now anyway), and tonight (Friday) is my last night on Couple’s NW Nights.

Yeah.

Wow.

I guess I still don’t know what to say so I’ll fill the awkward silence by filling you in on the details of WHY I’m leaving LOL

As you probably know, I’ve lived my whole life in the Portland area, and I LOVE it here - this is home for me, and therefore, unless God happens to have some radically different plans LOL, I DEFINITELY plan on coming back here sooner or later on a permanent basis. However, ever since I was in high school I knew one of the big things I wanted to do in life was travel, and while it seems that there is never truly a “good” time to pack up and leave everything and everyone you know and love and go “see the world,” I feel like it’s something I shouldn’t put off any longer in my life….

SOOOOO here’s the deal - I’m flying out of Portland July 3rd - catching a plane to Lake Erie, where I will be part of a sail/seamanship training program for a few weeks this summer. Sailing on a tall ship and living like a pirate LOL is something else I’ve always wanted to do (no, I don’t know where I get these ideas so don’t ask).

But here - you can see exactly what it is I’m going to be doing and see some pictures of the ship I’ll be on through this link:

http://www.brigniagara.org/

Now for the second leg of my journey…..you know I’ve been talking about My Robert, right? Who lives in Kentucky? Well, you probably saw this coming, but yes, once I get off the ship I plan on renting a car and working my way down to the Bluegrass State and meeting My Robert face-to-face. I know - crazy! I’ve never done anything like this in my life, and no matter how things might turn out I am VERY excited about this, and I know that no matter what happens, this experience will be a positive one for both of us - we are both trusting the Lord for that.

Know that you will be in my thoughts every step of the way. I miss you and my Portland already, and I’m not even gone yet! There truly are no words to express what a priviledge and an honor it has been to be a part of KUPL these past 3 1/2 years, and how much I appreciate your friendship and support. I will miss laughing with you, hearing your stories, and sharing mine with you every night from 7 to midnight!

But I wish you all the best and I know you will have a blast with my good buddy Jeremy Andrews, who will be taking over NW Nights. Jeremy is a great guy and alot of fun - I love spending time with him and I know you will too.

Please keep in touch! I’m hoping to keep both my facebook and myspace up and running - just look for Nicole Seger! (maybe I’ll even post a few pictures of the wild blue yonder LOL)

All my warmest thoughts and wishes to you always,

 Nicole Seger

My Robert (continued)

By popular demand, I am compelled to fill you in on some more of the details about my dear, wonderful, almost-perfect Robert. Who lives in Kentucky. Who I am going to Kentucky to meet this summer.

One of the first things everyone seems to want to know is how old Robert is, so I will save you the trouble of asking and tell you that he is 32. Just the right amount of years older, right? (I’m 26) I think so anyway…you know, just enough older than me to be sexy without being creepy LOL
OK, don’t tell him I said that LOL. But it’s true right? Ladies, YOU know what I’m trying to say.

ANYway……what else……he’s in the process of starting his own computer services business, but he’s worked doing just about everything (logging, construction, etc). Which is one of the things I like best about him - how well-rounded he is.

Also, he loves Reeses peanut butter cups. A big plus with me. Seriously.

Yep, you know, I think he might just be perfect after all.

Mother’s Day

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hey don’t forget! Momma’s Day this Sunday!

Every single year on Mother’s Day my mom asks to go to Bonneville Dam, but almost every year either something comes up or it rains lol

However, I think with the nice weather on the way this weekend, we might actually get to pull it off this year. I love the dam…smelling all the roses (which might not actually be in bloom yet, come to think of it) and hanging out by all the little ponds and pools and feeding the fish and checking out the sturgeon and swinging on the tire swing in the little park out toward the Columbia River. I love that old tire swing - been swinging on it my whole life. Literally, we have home movie of me and my cousin and my brother swinging on that same swing when we were all like 3 years old.

I think maybe after the dam we’re going to take a drive around Mt Hood on hwy 35 through Hood River. I haven’t done that drive in years and I haven’t even been to Hood River in ages.

YAY for beautiful weekends in the NW! Let me in on YOUR weekend plans tonight - 503-733-5000 or 1-800-533-kupl.

My Robert

OK, time for a confession.
Actually, this is just my way of finding out how many of you actually read my blog LOL
No seriously, I have a true confession which is that believe it or not, I actually currently have a man in my life!  YES!!!!!

And not just any man, he is an INCREDIBLE guy!!! He is amazing, outstanding, wonderful, perfect….well maybe, not perfect, but close enough to it for me (like the Alabama song).

We met online just after a few weeks after Christmas, and then started chatting and talking on the phone. No, we haven’t met in person yet, but soon!  :-)

He lives in Kentucky, loves to fish and hunt and sing (yes, sing!) and best of all, he loves George Strait. Just kidding. The REAL best of all is that He loves the Lord and wants to build his life on Him.
And he loves George Strait.

OK, that’s it for now.

Happy Belated Easter!

And GO BLAZERS!!!!!!
But since I actually know nothing about basketball OTHER than that the Blazers snagged home court advantage tonight for the playoffs (WOOOHOOO!!!!), I’m going to talk about Easter instead LOL
I hope you and your family had a marvelous holiday this weekend. Me and mine did, although holidays are always a bit of a marathon around my house. We got up at 5 to make it to the sunrise service at Trout Creek Bible Camp, which was awesome to get to see a whole bunch of friends and neighbors that you don’t get to see too often.
Then we went home, changed clothes, and headed to University Park Baptist Church in North Portland for their Easter service (that’s my grandparents’ church). Then we went back to their house for Easter dinner, which was delicious as always.
Praise the Lord for the gift of Jesus Christ! I continue to be so blown away by His love and blessings and faithfulness and most of all for His sacrifice for US on the cross - what an unspeakable love He has for each of us.
God bless you and Happy Easter.

Swinging!

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

AAAAHHHHHH SPRING!!!

Well, for a minute this week it was, anyway LOL

I always get SUCH a craving for swinging when the weather gets nice again, and for some reason we decided to take the seats off of our swings at home this year for the winter, so I was dying and just HAD to find a swing yesterday! So I drove around aimlessly in the West Hills yesterday afternoon for at least a half hour looking for this really cool park that I had discovered one day several years ago while I was still a student at PSU. One day I had a break, and was, once again, driving around aimlessly and happened to discover this really awesome little park on the side of the hill not far at all from downtown and it had a swingset that overlooked downtown and it was AWESOME!

So I was trying to find it again yesterday, but I never did. Instead I found another pretty cool little park (but not as cool as the first one) up in a neighborhood and it was called Healy Heights Park. I proceded to swing on the swing for about a half hour and rode the merry-go-round and everything. It was just so nice and quiet and peaceful and summery and I could even see Mt St Helens when I hit the high spots on the swing LOL

 ~SIGH~ I love spring

And also I decided that someday when I’m rich, I want to live in one of those incredible houses in the West Hills.

Stuck

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

You may have heard me say last night that I’m relinquishing my “Country Girl” title for the time being after getting stuck not once but TWICE in two days this week on my driveway in Corbett in the snow.

My little Chevy 5-speed 4wd truck usually goes anywhere, but for some reason this snow was slicker than usual or something I guess….actually the first time was just plain my fault cuz I wasn’t thinking and didn’t get up enough speed going into the hill, and then by the second night it was just so polished off and slick that I barely made it around the first corner LOL. And then of course once you lock up your brakes on a hill like that you immediately start sliding backwards - into trees and logs and ditches and all manner of assorted things like that. Luckily I didn’t hit anything where it counts - on the sheetmetal - but the last time I did get stuck - literally - in a pile of logs. I had logs behind my tires, in front of them, under the truck, everywhere.

Thank you Dad and John for getting me back out!!  (John as in my good pal Johnny Deere LOL)

The Oscars

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Well, yet another Academy Awards has come and gone without me seeing them! It always SOUNDS like a good idea, but then I get distracted watching movies or listening to music or reading books and I just never sit down and actually WATCH them. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve actually ever watched an Academy Awards in my life!
The only part I really care about I can catch up on the next day on eonline.com or People anyway…..that’s right - the dresses!! OH MY GOODNESS I LOVED the dress Kate Winslet had on! That was so gorgeous on her. Reese Witherspoon’s blue one didn’t get quite as good reviews, but I thought it was pretty - she looks so amazing in blue. I loved Halle Berry’s gold and black number…and Anne Hathaway was gorgeous too - she has such an awesome figure! Whatever.
The one I didn’t agree with was everybody’s saying how great Angelina Jolie’s dress was and I didn’t like it at all. I mean, she looks great in black and everything and it really showed off her figure well, but I didn’t like the top - I don’t think it was very flattering….too low-cut or something….just the shape of it was weird. And I SWEAR in the pictures it looks like she’s trying to hold it up with her forearms! Seriously! Don’t take my word for it, check out the pics in the links section!

Spring Fever, Anyone?

Friday, February 20th, 2009

MAN!! I wish they made immunizations for spring fever! These little teases of nice weather we get for a few days at a time every February and March in the NW are enough to do you in! LOL

I went to the Outlet Mall in Troutdale today and did some shopping - I bought a summery little t-shirt and then actually PUT IT ON and wore it to town! And I was only a tad too cold! THEN when I got out of my truck here in downtown Portland, I swear I smelled hyacinths blooming somewhere and I thought I’d died and gone to heaven! It’s just amazing how during the late spring and summer, you get so you take the sights and sounds and smells and feelings of summer almost totally for granted cuz you get so used to them, but this time of year you get a whiff of warm air or the scent of flowers and it drives you up the wall it feels so good!

I for one KNOW I’m starting to lose it - I drove by my neighbor’s house in Corbett this morning, and for some reason he has a bunch of little yellow flags stuck in the ground out in his front yard,  and I had to do a double take - I totally thought they were daffodils!
